Hazing Policy

  1. Hazing shall be defined as follows:
    1. To annoy any person by playing abusive or ridiculous tricks upon them, to frighten, scold, beat or harass them, or to subject them to personal indignity, or
    2. Any act that does not contribute to the positive development of the individual or causes any mental or physical discomfort or anxieties, NO MATTER HOW GOOD THE END RESULT OR INTENT.
  2. Hazing, as defined above, is strictly prohibited in all circumstances, be it Brother to Brother, Brother to pledge, pledge to pledge, or Mu Beta Psi (including its pledges) to any non-associate.
  3. Should a Chapter’s Brother or pledge be accused of hazing another Brother or pledge of that Chapter, the individual shall be brought before said Chapter’s Brother’s Court.
    1. Punishment shall be determined by the Brother’s Court, up to and including possible permanent revocation of their Brotherhood.
    2. The Brother’s Court shall be run as stated in said Chapter’s By-Laws.
  4. Should a Chapter be accused of violation of Fraternity, University, or state hazing regulations, the Chapter shall appear before the Board of Trustees and the Vice President of Chapter Maintenance for a hearing on their status.
    1. Punishment shall be determined by this hearing, up to and including possible permanent revocation of their Charter.
    2. The hearing shall be chaired by the Chair of the Board of Trustees.
  5. Should Mu Beta Psi (including its pledges) be accused of hazing a non-associate, the accused shall appear before the Board of Trustees and the Vice President of Chapter Maintenance for a hearing on their status.
    1. Punishment shall be determined by this hearing, up to and including possible permanent revocation of their Brotherhood.
    2. The hearing shall be chaired by the Chair of the Board of Trustees.
  6. Any dispute regarding hazing between Chapters shall be settled by an appearance before the Board of Trustees and the Vice President of Chapter Maintenance for a hearing on the status of the dispute.
    1. Punishment shall be determined by this hearing, up to and including possible permanent revocation of their Charter, or the Brotherhood of the persons involved.
    2. The hearing shall be chaired by the Chair of the Board of Trustees.
  7. This policy shall be revised as necessary by the National Convention, and approved by a three-fourths (¾) vote of the Legislative Council.
